How to build an MVP: a process that actually ships

Most delayed products are not delayed by code. They are delayed by a first version that tried to be the third. An MVP is the smallest product that can prove or kill your riskiest assumption with real users.

Write the assumption, not the feature list

“People will pay to book X on their phone” is an assumption. “We need chat, stories, a rewards 3D globe and an AI concierge” is a feature list. The MVP exists to test the assumption. Everything else is a backlog item with a date of “after we know”.

Decide what “working” means

A landing page and a WhatsApp number is a valid MVP if the assumption is demand. A Flutter app is the MVP when the assumption is a workflow: sign up, complete the job, come back. Do not build software to avoid having a sales conversation.

Pick a stack that can survive success

Throwaway prototypes feel fast until you win a customer and have to start over. For mobile, Flutter (or React Native) plus a small API is usually enough. For software used in a browser, Next.js and a real database beat a pile of no-code that cannot be handed to an engineer later.

Build the spine first

Accounts, the core loop, admin to operate it, then polish. Founders often start with brand motion and empty screens. Users forgive plain UI. They do not forgive a checkout that fails or a booking that vanishes.

Launch to people who can say no

Friends who love you are not a market. Put the product in front of the person who has the problem, watch them struggle, and write down what you will change in two weeks. Analytics plus five conversations beat a vanity dashboard.
